And like that we are back. Trade Show adventures are always one of a kind with our bespoke range of Leathergoods kits. This time everything went nuts before we left which had us scrambling for furniture hire and 115kgs of checked baggage. So while the airports were urging everyone to pack light we were packing more and more in! Virgin are an awesome airline they handled our precious packages with soooo much care.
So we insta storied our way through Life Instyle this year, for those of you who missed it its a trade only event. Meaning it is where the shops come to shop! How cool is that. You will see some new things rolling out very soon as we have Mr courier already packing his van and we have only been home a week.
This year we tried something different. I am alway stitching on the road its such good relaxation. This time we got back to our roots and did some teaching. New stockists joined us for Clifford card wallet sew alongs YAY. Soon there will be new packaging rolling out making our kits just thaat much more liftable! We launched new products like Henry... more on him to come and added to our very popular wrist watch range.
Take a look at our setup tell us what you think!
Lots of love talk to you soon. Adam and Bec

Did you know most small businesses don't make it past year 3!
So whats in the pipe line? Theres left turns and right turns and up turns and down turns there is dead ends and as Einstien would say 1000 ways not to make a light bulb. But what is going to pop out the end? Well that is like asking me what I am going to eat for breakfast tomorrow and the answer to that would be I will find out when I am hungry........heheheheheeee
Keep reading keep reading I promise there will be a sneak peek!
So what I can let loose is what is in the pipline now?

I remember the day we registered our buisness name, it was a cool winters day the sun was pouring in the studio window and freshly cut leather pieces were strewn across the work bench. We had spent months agonising over different names all of them far too wordy until one day after a meeting I hopped in the car for the long drive home and said to myself "Hammered" just Hammered. I had a few trusted friends and family I ran it by then stewed on it for a while longer, then off to the buisness name registration website I went!
With every new adventure there comes alot of firsts and boy did we have some! So here's an image gallery showing just a few of the milestones.
Stay tuned for year 2 next week!
The year before it officially was....
Momentus occasions really give us the opportunity to look back in time. Our 3rd birthday is just around the corner, when looking at some pictures waaaaay back at the start of our instagram we realised we started teaching leatherworking a full 12 months before we bought Hammered Leatherworks out of the closet. So really its our 4th birthday! YAY
We had so much awesome support from Leah Dent and Angela Mitchell from Studio Bomba who organised, promoted and invited us into their super welcoming space. We have seen so many light bulb moments and big smiley faces that inspired us to make our leather DIY kits for creative souls all over the world. The days of bang bang banging on coffee tables steered our focus firmly on our everything is in the box kits. This way we get to teach more people even though we dont get to see the lightbulb faces as much in person we do get to see proud hands and finished leathergoods though our #hammeredleatherworks on instagram.
We have so many awesome supporters over the years, those that follow us to support what we are doing, those that love craft, those that wanted to learn new skills, peeps that want to give a kit as a gift and those who have told every single friend about Hammered Leatherworks because they want one as a gift! Our little workshop in Perth is now reaching hands as far away as New York, London, Malaysia, Slovenia, Austin, Mexico, Canada and France we are so proud of all the people of the world for opening their hearts and minds to the wonderous smile and self satisfaction that comes with creating something responsibly and ethically that will last a life-time. With out "u" there is no us!
So have a think back to your first encounter with Hammered Leatherworks and tell us about it in the comments below. You will feel all warm and fuzzy!
We have a stack of awesomeness here that will go out chosen at random. Comments will close Monday 12th June.
With the release of our most recent collaboration with Etch by design Melbourne we thought it would be a great opportunity to get up close and personal with the wrist watch kit and what makes them so damn awesome.
So what actually comes in the box?
Everything you need is in the box apart from a pair of everyday scissors used for trimming.
Our leather watch bands are 20mm wide and designed in 3 parts;
The face and buckle
Included is the classic 42mm matte black and white face complete with quality japanese movement. All you need to do to swing it into action is remove the plastic clip holding the crown out from the watch and peel back the protective plastic from the front glass and stainless steel back. The face is completmented with a beautiful matte black buckle to suit the 20mm wide leather band.
All the small things
Every kit contains 2 colours of thread one matching the other is a burst of personality and colour. Good equipment is important we include a high quality John James saddlers needle to help you master the 1 needle method of saddle stitch, we also include a link to the below video tutorial for your one on one at home workshop. Seeing is totally believing!
WHY WHY WHY? This is a question we get all the time.
Why should I make my own? Because you will learn something new and it is going to feel soooooo damn good when your done. Take a break and instead of having a kitkat for the hips put a few stitches on your wrist!
Is it wrong to give a gift that needs work put in? No way! giving a DIY kit as a gift is 2 fold. It shows that some serious thought has gone into who you love and what they like, you are telling them you believe in them and what they are capable of.
What if I stuff it up? You can not beat leathergoods that are handsitched no matter what skill level the maker is at. We make it easy with top notch threads, needles and leather along with our video instructions will have any novice stitching like a pro.
My passion throughout my days of study and years of practice has always been finding the ‘gap’ within the expected norms of the industry, and bridging the space with multidisciplinary work. I couldn’t find the leather I needed for a project - no problem - lets print something custom on a material I had never used before! Im pretty adventurous like that - jump first.
Why not?! It intrigued me and was at that stage (mid 2015) not as mainstream in decoration and with designers as it is today. Leather has always been a material I have gravitated towards in my interior design practice - the patina, texture and depth of colour - bringing a beautiful layering to contemporary interiors.
Having experimented on a smaller scale with custom-printed leather cushions for soft furnishing projects I really wanted to push the scale further and with a background in textile and wallpaper I began to explore the possibility of printing large-scale leather wallpaper drops for an exhibition I had been invited to contribute to. Being comfortable and familiar with specifying finishes and materials within the industry of interior design, the process of designing, sourcing leather and finding a locally based company which could custom print my bespoke designs was an adventure! 'NO Richelle leather does not come in 53cm x 10m drops!? Who would have thought said the girl who grew up on a farm!’ Wow had I lost touch with my red-dirt and wheat field childhood…
Whats the story behind the Wanderers collection?
‘Wanderers’ is inspired by the elusive colours and the endless summers of my childhood, and memories of that time. The passing of time and recording moments of joy underpinned this collection. Initially designed as part of an exhibition ‘Still Life - Extraordinary, Everyday’ the exhibition revealed and explored the extraordinary, everyday of domestic space.
On a scale of burnt toast to hell yeah how excited are you about this?
Hell yeah - bring on the champagne! (and of course absinthe for a sneaky ‘death in the afternoon’) if only I could wear 2 watches at once?! This collaboration is something super special - limited number and re-imagining the space between textile/interior design and accessories - to be able to wear a custom piece of print - crafted by your own hand is super special indeed. It has been a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with Hammered Leatherworks and look forward to future collabs between Victoria and Western Australia.
