We love hearing how you, our awesome customers, are making family memories that will last a lifetime with Hammered Leatherworks DIY kits.
We were contacted by Karina to create a pocket wallet kit with custom engraving for their Pop. She was kind enough to share the journey of how all 3 generations although separated by thousands of kilometers, came together for one very special man. From the young to the young at heart, the satisfaction and happiness that comes from something handmade could never be replaced.
Karina sent us this "John loved his wallet, and actually got quite emotional about it.
We had our kids (5yo &3yo) help stitch some of the wallet with Paul, and took photos, then sent it all to John (their Poppa) in NZ so he could finish it off. So once it was all finished, all of the 3 generation Dyer boys made it together! He thought it was the best thing ever!! So thanks so much!"

We meet some totally amazeballs people when we travel and our December trip to the The Big Design Market was certainly a good one. On a steamy afternoon in Melbourne we met Lynette, a lovely lady with a watch that she loved so so dearly but it needed a little help. You see her wrist watch bands were an odd shape to suit her stunning watch face which posed a problem, replacement bands were just not available. While browsing our stand she looks up and says can you custom make for me? We had a quick chat about buckles and pins because these too were very unique to the band itself and decided to do it we would need to recycle the ones she had. Just a week later we were exchanging addresses and her beloved watch bands were on their way to the Hammered workshop.
The design process is fun and we love problem solving, it really gives our brains a workout. Working from the samples with a ruler, caliper and hardware in hand we created a millimeter perfect drawing taking how the bands had worn over time into account.
Next step was sampling. We cut and stitched a sample for Lynette to check before making final tweaks and making her 4 replacement bands. You can see the unique shape to the pin area.
And voila, a few tweaks and colour choices later we had stunning replacements that will last many many years to come with her Baume et Mercier face.
After the band safely arrived in Lynette's hands she sent this picture through. They are the perfect fit and the high quality leather used will certainly have them going strong for many years to come.
If you have something near and dear to you that needs a little bit of life breathed back into it to keep going for many years to come do contact us, we like a challenge!
Until our next adventure...Bec
I get asked a lot, "so what are your qualifications? Did you go to design school and business school?" You see my answer to this is no. My qualifications are my gut and the experiences I have had that allow me to trust it.
While I had a keen interest in fashion and art in high school taking both right up to year 12 I don't have a piece of paper that says I am qualified to do what i do. What is ground breaking is there are a lot of people who would tell you the exact same thing. For example Mr Hammered he is a fully qualified pastry chef and baker. He also has not worked in the field for the entire time I have known him. He has been a carpenter, brick layer, small engine mechanic, fabricator, welder, fiberglass technician and even worked for the Perth mint! The list goes on. It is all these experiences with design that make us good designers. We think logically and practically, not theoretically and not once have we said to ourselves no we can't do this because we don't have a piece of paper or the skills. The thing is life is a bit like the chicken or the egg what comes first conundrum. The experience will teach us but if we don't take the experience then the situation will never change.
Just like Thomas Edison i know plenty of ways how to not work with leather. This has been discovered through experiences, a wandering mind and invention. Don't get me wrong, it takes time and certainly will not happen overnight. You're probably saying to yourself, alright hurry up and get to the point. The point is... don't let anything stand in your way. LIVE BOLD, create yourself, experience everything and gather every moment you can.
You don't need a piece of paper or permission!
