What is the new Kindred collection?
An innovative range of sew your own bags and purses that combine wood and leather. We believe wood and leather are kindred spirits, joined by their characteristics of texture and noble qualities. This is why we have bought them together for one common goal....The ability to make functional everyday pieces that reflect you, your spirit and the power that comes from daring to be different.
You have never named products before, why now?
This collection is all about you, our customers and your needs! It just seemed natural to name it after the people that have inspired it. There is a real persons needs behind each well spaced stitching hole. Sharing your stories and desires with us has allowed us to create for you, learning more and more every step of the way. Thank you for letting us in.
With this new range we have gone completely digital with the instructions. Available on youtube and through our website you can access your one on one workshop with me (Bec) . You said you wanted to watch and learn not read and learn, your wish is our command!
To celebrate the launch of this seriously awesome range and the people who have inspired it we will be doing one give away a week for the next 3 weeks. Stay tuned and keep following the kindred story. It's your story we are just one of the characters.
Comment below and tell us which item excites you the most in the new Kindred range.
The Beccy wallet, the Anna bag or Clifford card wallet?
Adam and I love to travel we have been to Thailand , Malaysia, Indonesia, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Port Hedland and that is just been in our time together. As kids our parents had us out and about to visiting Brisbane, Gold Coast, Singapore, Bali and Penang for me and Hawaii and the USA for Adam. We have learnt just a few tricks along the way like how to get every centimeter and gram out of your suitcase by rolling your clothes, Adam is a tetris expert! So I thought we would share a few.
Travel wallets - Domestic or International you want to be able to fit a full width A4 document in it we all print our boarding passes online these days or even use the airline apps so make sure your travel wallet is thin and flexible because everything you put in it is going to stiffen it up and increase the thickness. You dont want the first thing you do to be calling a chiropractor because you were sitting on or carrying something the equivalent of a brick!
Luggage tags - We have been lucky we have not lost any luggage yet *touch wood* but that might because everytime we fly for buisness it looks like we are moving house! Knowing your luggage is super important. We recenty purchased a new big case that we share, it is your standard black case that I am sure 1000s of people have as it was on SALE heheheh but it ment that at the baggage carosel it was like trying to pick a needle out of hay stack! So you have a few options you could tie a ribbon to it or put a sticker on it or you could pop a luggage tag on it. Small and light weight these have the bonus of actually being able to guide your case back to you without the need to open it! That way the aiprort will never know that your dirty laundry was accidently the last thing you threw in.
Carry On - Did you know that most airlines allow you your little wheelie bag plus a handbag or satchel? We totally have this sussed now so all the battery back ups go in the cabin luggage while things we need inflight like headphones, iPads, pens, hair ties all go in my handbag or Adams satchel because we can tuck it under the seat infront of us. I always have this fear that when i open the overhead comparment the bags are going to pour out like when i get the pots and pans down from the top shelf in my kitchen! Unreasonable? I think not. Although Adam seems to think so.. pft
So here is our line up of fully tested Travel essentials.
Do you have an item that find makes your journey easier? tell us about is in the comments below. We also welcome your travel stories.
I have been travelling back and forward to Sydney and Melbourne for 3 years now peddling our wares. Travelling is something I need help with, the flights at odd hours and the bloody long days means I drag along with me Mr Hammered or when he is not available I have beautiful friends that stand in.
Any one who travels along with me knows how close we cut it! But this last trip was different instead of rush, rush, rush we made the time to do just a few things. We chose to cut through the hustle and bustle and embrace slow living, every experience. These are the places we saw and where we ate while in Sydney.
TUESDAY - ARCHIE ROSE GIN BLENDING WORKSHOP
We arrived in Sydney on Valentine's Day; seriously it was a coincidence totally not planned. What was planned though was the gin blending workshop we attended at Archie Rose Distillery. Just like us they are bring an old art back to life. Sydney has not had their very own distillery making gin for many many decades. Due to lots of bookings we were seated in the actual distillery which was a first for them and for a texture lover like me it was an absolute delight. Surrounded by gin barrels, copper distilling kettles and stainless steel mash pots it was AWESOME! Here is a picture of the distillery from the Archie Rose Website. We had our tables on the left, right near the barrels and among the action.
FRIDAY - ROGUE LIFESTYLE
On Friday night we were invited to the Rogue Lifestyle press party. Located just down the road from the trendy Waterloo area on Bourke St there could not have been a more fitting venue with it's striking presence. A trendy warehouse with wooden floors and exposed brick that also housed an exhibition space. It was a great show with a stunning grazing table and a buzz of stallholders, PR moguls and supporters.
SATURDAY NIGHT WAS GALA NIGHT
Finalists in both the Australian Made and Gift categories, we were optimistic that maybe we might bring just one home. WE WON BOTH! So as you can imagine we were totally over the moon and it turned into a blog post of its own. LOL - you can read about it here.
SUNDAY NIGHT we packed, packed and packed then discovered the German beer bar across the road from the Life Instyle venue at Hordern Pavilion unfortunately we were far, far too tired to even consider taking pictures at this point. With a belly full of slow cooked meat and German sausage we were off to bed.
MONDAY was a day of rest and train travel. We walked into Surry Hills for an epic breakfast of pinky french toast at breadnbrew. Something you might not know is Mr Hammered is actually form Sydney originally! So we jumped on a train from Central Station to head out to Rouse Hill for some sight seeing in his old stomping grounds.
OH MY GOD did you know Sydney has double decker trains! WTF!!!!!! mind blown! After a delightful time in what felt like rural Sydney we headed back dropping past Olympic Park yup another first! Never seen it before except on TV, then onto the new ICC convention centre finishing up with a trip to my favourite creative place Koskela.
So what are GALA Awards and what do they Mean?
The annual Gift & Life Instyle Awards, GALA is a celebration and recognition of the creative excellence of our vibrant and innovative industry.
The awards include 23 categories across varied key product areas, specialty products, talent categories and Retail awards including Retailer of the Year, Best Online Retailer and more. The awards recognise those individuals and businesses plus their outstanding commitment to the industry.
Basically it means the industry pros have said that the hot product that everyone is going to want this year is ours! We have ace packaging, a great product and all the small things covered.
Who are the industry Pros?
The judging panel is a selection of independent industry professionals who can share their experience and insight on the world of design, trends, merchandising, business and buying.
Last year was the first year we applied for and won a GALA award. This one was for our newly launched (at the time) mini kit range. Back then it only had 3 designs it now consists of 6 great extremely giftable boredom busters and good feeling creators!
YES that does mean we have won Gift Product of the year 2 years in a row! YAY!
So lets see your hands in the air like you just dont care! Cause no matter where you are we are doing it with you.
I can not wait to share with you the antics we got up to while in Sydney
thats coming up next. Lots of love Bec xoxo
What is Life Instyle?
It is a trade show where the shops come to shop, Stylists and Architects discover new products and bloggers/writers converge! Trade shows are all about the sparkle and only we get 2 opportunities a year to put on the best show we can to attract awesome stockists from around Australia and overseas.
Extreme list making that could totally be a sport! It is the one thing that scares me most, if we forget something its an 8 hour round trip flight so leaving something behind is just not an option.
Our entire set up, believe it or not, thanks to Mr Hammered, fits on a 120cm x 80cm x 100cm pallet that weighs in at about 200kgs. Definitely a job for the forklift.
I sketch for weeks, organise for a few more, then make for several more weeks, and this is just for the stand, let alone the new collection that was being launched on it. To be honest I love every moment (not so sure about Mr Hammered though). The problem solving and squeezing the budget is definitely my wheel house. I love when it all comes together.
I hope this little window into our world behind the scenes can explain our occasional extended absences on social media.
Stay tuned for the next blog about the Life Instyle GALA Awards!
